Story 20
Hi, my name is Connor. My story about cell phones is my family was going to take a vacation to France and none of us spoke French. My dad took it in high school but didn't pay attention. And so we were worried about being able to communicate with people, especially since we were going to go into the countryside a lot, because none of us really like big cities. But we were worried about not having cell signal in the countryside as well. So my mom was trying to figure out like translation apps that you could use like offline. And it took her a really long time, like three days to find anything where she could like say any phrases offline. And so she was going to take a whole like book in her checked luggage and just have to flip through it. And I'm like, that's not going to work. And so, you know, she eventually spent all this time and she found one. And then we went, we went to France and like everybody spoke English. There was literally like one time when somebody spoke French and wasn't like speaking any English like at all. And they knew English. They just didn't know enough to like tell us what we needed to know. And so it was really funny to like have spent all this time trying to figure out how to talk to people. And then we didn't even need to do it. Did you have a good conversation with the people? Yeah, we had a lot of conversations. I don't, it was, it was like six years ago, so I don't really remember. Did they speak French to you? No, they just don't speak English. How did you feel when you spoke to them? It was really interesting because they all had like accents, but it wasn't like, it wasn't even very strong. It was really funny. There was like only a few people who had actually like strong French accents. And a lot of people go to like London to learn English. So a lot of French people have British accents, which is hilarious.
