Story 09

My name is Karishma Akhter and I go to Lafayette. So my story is like when I was in my country, Bangladesh, so most people at that time used an app called Emo. So you video call people that are not there. So I saw many people used it, even my mom and most of my family members. So my dad used to live here. So we would just call him sometimes, video call and stuff. But now it's different. We have so many apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, that you can call on Snapchat and stuff. So it's like it changed over the time. But most people use the Emo. I think I don't remember. Also, during the COVID, we use Zoom call. So it's different, but it's similar because we use it to take classes and stuff. Is there any specific communication software that you prefer to use? Would you prefer WhatsApp? Would you prefer Zoom? How would you prefer to communicate if you were using a certain software? Most of the time when I call my family in Bangladesh, we use WhatsApp. Most of the time when we call, video call. So I think I prefer WhatsApp, but if I call to my friend, I use Snapchat most of the time. So I think these two apps mostly. Who do you use the software to talk to? Yeah, like my grandma and my aunties. Do they have difficulty with these technologies? Yeah, so they don't have the network connection like how we have it here. So it's really fast here. But in Bangladesh, they have a lot of difficulty with it. Most people can't afford Wi-Fi. When I came here, that's when I know that you can actually buy Wi-Fi and use it monthly. But in my country, it's different because it's really expensive and I can't afford it. When you communicate with your relatives from another country or whatever, does the time difference play a role in that too? What time of day do you choose to communicate with them? So if it's here for 16 right now in the afternoon, there will be like two in the middle of the night. So when it's night here, it's over there.
